Motorcycle sideswipe sends one to hospital

May 5, 2014
Observer Today

A 37-year-old Fredonia woman was taken by Starflight to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment Sunday after her motorcycle was reportedly sideswiped by another motorcycle. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Main Street in the city of Dunkirk, just south of Ninth Street. According to the Dunkirk Police Department, Robert Salgado, 23, of King Street was intending to turn left into a driveway as he was driving south on Main Street. Salgado reportedly slowed down to begin turning, but did not see Jenna Gammon of Susan Court, Fredonia, in his blind spot on his left side. After the sideswipe, Gammon swerved and started slowing her motorcycle down, but struck a curb on the east side of the road, which ejected her from the bike. She reportedly received an injury to her right knee. Salgado was charged with having an uninspected motor vehicle. The Dunkirk Fire Department assisted.
