FORESTVILLE - Down to Forestville's final out with two strikes on Alisha Szumigala in the bottom of the seventh inning, the senior cracked an RBI single to score Julia Szoszorek and give the Lady Hornets (5-3. 4-2) a 3-2 victory over Pine Valley on Wednesday in CCAA East II high school softball.
It capped off an impressive day for Szumigala, who was also the winning pitcher. In the circle, she struck out 14, did not issue a walk and scattered just five base hits.
It was a rematch of last year's Section 6 Class D championship game, in which Pine Valley won in extra innings.

On Wednesday, Forestville got on the scoreboard in the first inning as Szumigala scored on a passed ball. The Lady Hornets increased the lead, 2-0, as Katie Thompson had an RBI single to score Olivia Burger.

The Lady Panthers got on the board in the fifth as Jessica Pillard led off with a single. Later in the inning, with two runners aboard, Kayla Mansfield reached on an error and both runners scored.
That set up Szumigala's second double of the game for the winning hit.
"It was a great game," Forestville coach Brianne Hazelton said. "Pine Valley is always a tough team. They have great hitters. It was nice to have a rematch and come away with a victory."
Jessica Wilcox was the losing pitcher as she fanned eight while walking five and giving up just three hits.
Brocton 24,?Sherman 0
BROCTON - Samara Dulmaine provided the offense and Jess Putcher was stellar in the circle as the Brocton Lady Bulldogs (5-5, 4-4), dismantled the Sherman Lady Wildcats (0-8), 24-0, Wednesday in CCAA West II high school softball.
Putcher did not issue a walk, struck out three and gave up just three hits. At the plate, Dulmaine had four hits to drive in three runs. Putcher added three hits with a triple while Morgan Bennett and Sabrina Ruiz each had three hits in the win.
Sherman's Alexa Dekuning had two hits.
Brocton hosts Chautauqua Lake today.
CLCS 12, CVCS 7
RIPLEY - Chautauqua Lake (10-5, 6-1) defeated Cassadaga Valley, 12-7, Wedneday during CCAA West II softball action.
The Lady Thunderbirds plated four runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI triple off the bat of Jade Walsh, a run-scoring single by Mel McCutcheon and a pair of errors that chased home McCutcheon and and Ashley Moulton, who had reached base on a single down the left field line.
Chautauqua Lake scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth for its 12 runs. Cassadaga Valley plated three runs in the top of the third to cut Chautauqua Lake's lead in half, 6-3, but were unable to score again until the sixth.
Olivia Anderson picked up the win for the Lady Thunderbirds, striking out seven and walking two while Alyssa Hahn suffered the loss, as she struck out two and walked as many.
At the plate for Chautauqua Lake, Walsh (triple) and Moulton had three hits each while Gina Sena (double) and Emilee Steger had two hits each.
For the Lady Cougars, Madison Reuther had a pair of singles while Rebecca Rothleader had a double and a triple.
The Lady Thunderbirds are back in action today when they travel to take on CCAA West II foe Brocton.
