Community libraries still play a large role in our region.
It was proven in Cassadaga, which reopened a library that had been previously closed. In Dunkirk, the library is a gathering and learning center, especially when it comes to help with the computers. And Westfield's Patterson Library is well known for its after-school events for students.
But Fredonia's library is just as important, and like others its size, it is seeing a decrease in funding from governmental entities, specifically the village. That makes this year's membership drive at Darwin R. Barker Library so important.
The drive, already underway, has membership levels at $15, $25, $50, $100 and $500. For more information or to help, forms are available in the library at 7 Day St.
