Jean J. Patz, age 84, of Dunkirk, New York died at home on May 16, 2014.
She was born March 19, 1930 in Silver Creek, the daughter of the late Samuel Arcadipane (Ark), Sr. and Frances Randazzo Ark.
A Chautauqua County resident all her life, she graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1947.
She worked first in the office of S. Howes Co., Inc. in Silver Creek, then as a legal secretary at various local law offices for over 40 years, the last at the law office of her nephew, Samuel J. Ark of Silver Creek.
When their children were young, she volunteered with their Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops, and as a volunteer in the program for patterning children at St. Joseph's School in Dunkirk. She was a delivery volunteer for the Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels and while serving with its Board of Directors, also held the office of Vice Chairman and Chairman for several years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling throughout the country with her husband for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Bernard W. Patz, Sr. whom she married June 24, 1950; daughter, Jean Marie (David) Gardner of York, Pennsylvania; and sons, Bernard W. (Marie) Patz, Jr. of Leesburg, Florida and Mark D. Patz of Fredonia; brother Joseph (Theresa) Ark and sister-in-law Virginia (Peter) Ark.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Samuel Jr., Peter and Thomas and sister-in-law Rose Marie (Samuel Jr.).
Jean was a member of Holy Trinity Parish of Dunkirk.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in Holy Trinity Church. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m., at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum of Holy Trinity Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dunkirk Free Library.
