After a spring full of rain and cancellations, the Section 6 softball playoffs are set to begin today.
In Class B, No. 17 Dunkirk (8-7) travels to take on No. 16 Southwestern (7-8-1) at 4:45 p.m., while in Class A, No. 16 Lake Shore (3-9) hosts No. 17 Lewiston-Porter (5-11).
On Thursday, in Class B, No. 9 Gowanda (13-3) travels to take on No. 8 Leonardo da Vinci (12-3) while the winner of the Dunkirk-Southwestern game will face No. 1 Depew, in Depew.
Pine Valley’s?Kate Hoth slides safely into second base during a recent high school softball game. The Lady Panthers received a No. 2 seed in the Section 6 Class D softball playoffs.
In Class C action on Thursday, No. 4 Westfield (13-2) hosts No. 13 Silver Creek (4-12), No. 10 Cassadaga Valley (6-7) travels to take on No. 7 Barker (8-6) and No. 3 Chautauqua Lake (11-1) hosts No. 14 Holland (1-11-1).
In Class D, Panama (8-7) received the No. 1 seed and will host No. 8 West Valley (1-12) next Tuesday to kick off the quarterfinals. Also on Tuesday, No. 2 Pine Valley (8-7) will host No. 7 Clymer (2-10). Forestville (7-6) earned the three seed and will entertain No. 6 Ellicottville (3-11).
If Pine Valley and Forestville each win, the two teams will meet in the semifinals, which will be a rematch of last season's championship game.
Pine Valley won that game in extra innings and advanced all the way to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Final 4.
The final quarterfinal game scheduled for Tuesday will be No. 5 North Collins (5-10) traveling to No. 4 Brocton (5-8).
