William James Harford, Sr., age 83, of Silver Creek, N.Y. died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the TLC/HN-Nursing Facility in Irving, N.Y.
He was born in Buffalo on February 15, 1931 to the late Hugh J. and Marjorie Sharp Harford.
Bill grew up in Kenmore and graduated from Kenmore High School where he studied graphic arts. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman during the Korean War. Bill worked for the Genesee Brewing Company and retired as the Regional Sales Manager.
Always active in civic affairs, Bill was a member of the Silver Creek Fire Department. He also served as a Silver Creek Village Trustee and Deputy Mayor. Bill was member of the Silver Creek Chamber of Commerce and Silver Creek Kiwanis Club.
A sportsman who en-joyed the golf, sailing and skiing, he was a member of the Tri-County Country Club, Dunkirk Yacht Club and the Cockainge Ski Resort. Bill was an accomplished artist with pen and ink, acrylics, oil and water color paint.
Bill is survived by his wife, Alice Roetzer Harford; two daughters, Sharon (Brad) Malt of Boston, MA, and Sandy ( Rob) Kabus of San Anselmo, CA.; three sons, James (Deb) Harford of Brunswick, ME, David (Laura) Harford of Sheridan, N.Y. and William (Julia) Harford of Silver Creek, NY. Also survived by five granddaughters and five grandsons.
Calls may be made at St. Columban's On The Lake, 2546 Lake Road, Silver Creek, N.Y. on Saturday June 7, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Flowers graciously accepted at St. Columban's. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dun-kirk, NY 14048.
