Paul D. Soper Sr., 75, of Dunkirk died Wednesday morning (June 4, 2014) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.
He was born April 16, 1939 in Corry, Pa., the son of the late Harold and Margaret (Peiffer) Soper.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Soper had served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. McCaughey (DDE-860) from 1958-1959.

He graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School, Class of 1957. Paul had been employed at Ply-mouth Tube as a Finishing Shop Foreman and retired from Cassadaga Job Corps as Property Officer. He was the owner and operator of Paul's Gun Shop in Dunkirk for several years.
He was a lifetime member of the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club and a member of the National Rifle Association and the Dunkirk Lakeside Club. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and bingo.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jane (Soper) Schrantz.
Survivors include his son, Paul D. Soper Jr. of Dunkirk and his daughter, Catherine (Andrew) Carpenter of Fairport, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life Monday, June 9, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, Mullet Street, Dunkirk, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club "Take a Kid Fishing" Fund, P.O. Box 178, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
