On Saturday, area residents can join the Putnam Record Insurance Agency from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chautauqua County Fair-grounds for the second annual Safety Saturday. The day will be filled with a wide array of safety demonstrations and fun activities for the entire family.
Some events include:
The city of Dunkirk Fire Department will be on hand to promote fire safety in our community. Members of the community are invited to learn how to encourage the whole family to practice fire safety. There is no better way to learn about fire safety than touring a real fire truck. Sparky the fire dog will also be there to meet the kids.
One of the best ways to get around the community is on a bicycle. However, without proper bike safety, it can be a dangerous form of transportation. Putnam Record Insurance Agency is once again joining forces with the good people from Spoke Folk to educate those attending this year's event on bicycle safety, such as sharing the road and staying alert while you ride. Bicycle helmets will be available free of charge, so stop by the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds Floral Hall Pavilion to take part.
Who doesn't love parades? This year, we are also hosting a bicycle parade that begins at noon. If you are interested in participating in the parade, all you have to do is register at 10 a.m. Decorations will be provided to decorate your bike, and a prize will be given to the most uniquely ornamented bike.
The city of Dunkirk Police Department will be on hand for Safety Saturday at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, offering fingerprinting for the children. By having the fingerprints done by a professional, you will be more likely to get quality fingerprints that you can keep on file in case of an emergency.
The New York State Police along with the Chautauqua County Sheriff's will be present at Saturday's event to perform car seat safety inspections. If the officers find that the seat that you have installed in your vehicle is not adequate to keep your child safe, a limited number of free replacement seats will be available.
For all you train enthusiasts, the Alco-Brooks Locomotive train will be open for you to walk through and learn about Dunkirk's great history in the rail system and the production of the locomotive.
In addition to all of the demonstrations and activities, there will also be hot dogs, juice, our famous popcorn, balloons, and coloring books available to add to the fun as well as live music with Nick & Andy guest starring Sarah Kobel.
