Area residents driving through Fredonia last week probably noticed the usual hanging flower baskets beautifying the downtown area, but many may view this year's bouquets as more meaningful than in past years. While these baskets are put up by the village every summer, due to budget cuts this year, the flowers initially were not going to get put up. Local donors immediately stepped forward to help out after Mayor Stephen Keefe sounded a villagewide call for people and businesses to adopt about 40 planters, making this year's Fredonia flower initiative truly community-oriented. The Fredonia Rotary Club purchased and planted the red ground-level flowers in this photo.
