Five members of the Fredonia Central School District's staff were officially granted tenure status by the board of education on Tuesday.
Kimberly Black, Lynda Sentz, Jennifer Beichner, Benjamin Wendell and Ryan Sikorski each earned the distinct milestone after a unanimous vote by the board during its meeting. Superinten-dent Paul DiFonzo congratulated all five once the motion passed and said each one does a "fantastic job" for the district.
"All five are wonderful additions to the tenured group, and it's a great step in a career," he added. "We're talking about people here who are experienced and working hard, and I just want to wish all of them congratulations. Thank you all for being with our district."

Black has her initial certification in art and her tenure will commence July 1. Additionally, Sentz received her professional certifications in grades 7 through 12 English language arts and grades 1 through 6 childhood education and will enter into a tenured ELA area on Aug. 14.
Beichner earned her professional certifications in grades 7 through 12 biology and grades 7 through 12 earth science and will fill a tenured position in the science area effective on Aug. 16, while Wendell has his initial certifications in grades 1 through 6 students with disabilities and grades 1 through 6 childhood education and will enter into a tenured spot in the special education area on Aug. 30.
Sikorski received his initial certification as a school building leader and earned a tenured position as an assistant elementary principal, effective July 1.
Also during the meeting, the girls varsity swimming sharing agreements with Dunkirk and Silver Creek were extended for the 2014-15 school year.
Seven people were appointed to permanent positions, including Rick Bamonto and Jacob Brunecz as cleaners (effective July 10); Dan Bartkowski as custodian, Frank Zielinski as printer trainee (effective July 1) and Mia Putnam, Alberto Ramirez-Sanchez and Mara Coronado as teacher aides (effective Aug. 20).
Jenniffer Maslakowski was appointed to the position of teacher on special assignment and will serve as the assistant middle school principal for the 2014-15 school year, temporarily leaving her position as middle school English teacher.
Her salary for the year will be $69,157.
The board entered into executive session to discuss upcoming and pending negotiations with the Fredonia Teachers Association and matters involving specific personnel, including the tenure recommendations and other matters.
