SOUTH DAYTON - The Pine Valley Central School District will be searching for new leadership. The Board of Education approved the resignation of Superintendent Pete Morgante at a recent board meeting.
The board approved, with regret, the retirement resignation of Morgante who has decided to retire early. Morgante has several years left on his contract with the district, but will resign effective July 31. The board will meet with BOCES District Superintendent David O'Rourke during a July 21 meeting to discuss options for filling the position.
During the public comment period at the meeting, Angelo Graziano brought up why there was no mention of who the voters were in the alleged voter fraud. According to district officials at a previous meeting, three non-district residents allegedly voted in the annual budget and school board elections. Graziano questioned the board as to why there was no mention of who the voters were - allegedly three district teachers. Board of Education President Janie Waag stated the district consulted with legal counsel and was advised to not comment on identities.

"We always have to act in the best interest of the district," Waag said.
The district also approved filling a physical education vacancy due to a retirement. After consideration, the board will advertise for a .6 FTE physical education teacher and will have elementary swim classes taught by high school physical education teachers.
Board member Larry Zollinger would like the board of education to evaluate the position in January to see if increasing the position to full time would be needed.
The board of education also recognized outgoing members, Jeffrey Chase, Michael Pease, Matthew Waag, Bob Astry and student representative Adam Lukasik. The board of education will host its reorganizational meeting on Monday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
