The victim of an alleged attempted murder incident in Westfield has reportedly died from her injuries.
According to Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace, Nicole Sheehan, 29, of Lancaster died Friday around 1 p.m. at Hamot Medical Center.
The sheriff's office reported Sheehan and her boyfriend Sam H. Reynolds, 38, also of Lancaster, were visiting the area. A neighbor of the Route 5 cottage where the couple were staying, called for help early Thursday morning after Sheehan went to their residence seeking help for a gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies were reportedly searching the area for Reynolds when they heard a gunshot. He was found dead near the breakwall on Barcelona beach, in an apparent suicide.
"This was a horrifying incident. It is such a tragedy for the surviving friends and families," Gerace said in a phone interview Saturday.
Sheehan was transported to Hamot and on Thursday was listed in critical condition. Gerace described her injuries as "devastating."
"It would have been a miracle if she survived," he said.
Gerace said investigation is ongoing.
