Maureen E. (Karin) Catalano, 71, of Silver Creek died Thursday (July 10, 2014) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk following a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 3, 1942 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Norman J. and Florence (Bremer) Karin.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Catalano was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1960.
She had been employed as a legal secretary for Attorney Edwin J. Kuzdale and Sullivan & Snyder Attorneys. Maureen had also worked as the Senior Librarian Clerk at Silver Creek Central School District for 20 years.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in Silver Creek.
Maureen enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and traveling to warm climates with her husband during the winter months.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, George L. Catalano; three daughters, Karin (Paul) Bardo of Silver Creek, Patricia (Loren) Smith of Cassadaga, and Jennifer (Michael) Serio of Forestville; one son, George "Larry" (Christine) Catalano of Rocky Mount, NC; eight grandchildren, Jordyn, Bradley, and Brendan Bardo; Cameron Smith; Heather and Nathan Serio; and Savannah and Rocco Catalano; one sister, Susan Matesevac of Silver Creek; and one brother, Dr. Norman (Charlotte) Karin of East Amherst.
Also survived by MaryAnn Corsoro; Louis and Phyllis Catalano; several nieces and nephews; and aunts and uncles.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Patrick Catalano; and her father and mother-in-laws, Joseph and Nellie Catalano.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Monday morning at 11 o'clock in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Silver Creek. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Pieta Mausoleum of St. Mary's Cemetery, Dunkirk.
