Jamestown Community College has been approved for a new degree program that will prepare students for the reality of globalization and global issues.
The State University of New York and the New York State Education Department have approved the registration of an associate in arts degree in global studies that will be offered on JCC's Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses.
"The global studies degree prepares students to operate in an increasingly interconnected world by promoting critical perspectives on the social, cultural, environmental, political, and economic issues and processes associated with globalization," said Marilyn A. Zagora, JCC's vice president of academic affairs.
The degree is appropriate for students seeking a two-year degree in global studies as a ladder to a baccalaureate degree in global studies or a related area of social sciences or humanities concerning international matters, as well as to other citizens interested in continued study in global, international, or cultural studies.
Students enrolled in the global studies degree program will benefit from a cross-disciplinary approach. An understanding and analysis of global issues, processes, trends, systems and problems will be emphasized in the courses offered in the program.
