There's nothing quite like spending an evening singing Irish songs with friends, and that's what's being offered by members of the Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club.
Mark your calendar for "A Night at the Brix with Doc and Bill" from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at 21 Brix Winery on Route 20 in Portland to sing your best with lots of others.
Many people are familiar with Doc Hamels and Bill Drellow who have tuned their guitars to perform in the tri-state area for the past four years and have a growing fan base across five counties. Most recently they were headliners for St. Patrick's Day at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House.
Two Westfield/Mayville Rotarians, Doc Hamels, left; and Dave Travis, treasurer/planner, put their heads together to organize a fun evening for the public. “A Night at the Brix with Doc and Bill” features the duo singing Irish songs with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at 21 Brix Winery on Route 20 in Portland.
In addition to a performance by Doc and Bill featuring Irish and folk music, there will be food and soft drinks, a door prize and a 50-50 raffle. Proceeds will benefit the Rotarians' local community projects. In addition, 21 Brix will have a cash bar where those attending may choose from its many kinds of wine.
Pre-sale tickets are $20 per person and are available from any W/M Rotarian or by calling Rotarian Dave Travis at 792-9791. Tickets will also be available at the door.
"Bill and I are looking forward to playing great Irish pub songs and hits from the folk era, such as the Kingston Trio," Doc Hamels, also a Rotarian, noted. "We hope a lot of folks can come out to the terrific 21 Brix venue!"
Rotarians, whose motto is "Service Above Self," will greet those attending and, at the evening's end, hope patrons will leave clapping, tapping and singing!
