Nelson B. Maggio of Fredonia, NY, died Thursday (July 31, 2014) at Absolut Care of Dunkirk, NY.
He was born in the Town of Arkwright, the son of the late Bert F. and Josephine (Scaccia) Maggio.
Nelson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was married to Frances Mancuso and together they raised two sons, Daniel and Ricky. Not only was he a grape farmer, but he was also a Stationary Engineer at SUNY Fredonia, until he retired.
Nelson was known for having a meticulous lawn, gardening, a love of all cars and car racing, and an enjoyment of music and playing the keyboard.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Fredonia Beaver Club, American Legion Post 59 and the Jamestown Rod & Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; his son, Daniel M. Maggio and fiancee Sandra Ebling; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his sisters, Marie (Bert) DeCeilio and Catherine (Harley) Becker of Fredonia, Jean (Ross) of West Seneca, NY and Betty (Buzz) Bulick of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky C. Maggio; his sister, Alberta (Donald) Reynolds; and his brother, Frank (Nancy) Maggio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. C.J. Westfield as the celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass and may call at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main St., Fredonia, NY on Sunday, Aug. 3, from 2-5 p.m. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Sheridan, NY.
