The Chautauqua County Vegetarian-Vegan Society will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. at the YWCA, 58 South Portage Street, Westfield.
The evening's speaker will be Bill Kuwik of Fredonia who will talk about "Diet and Lifestyle for Powerful Immunity." Kuwik lives outside Fredonia, where he operates a small organic farm. He will talk about the benefits of medicinal mushrooms, various food groups that build immunity, organic versus conventional produce, as well as environmental and other factors that influence immunity. Kuwik has been an organic grower since 1985 and has a strong interest in diet and health. He will provide some recipes and other handouts.
Kuwik is also a Licensed Massage Therapist and the owner of Fredonia Massage Therapy, which provides neuro-muscular therapy as well as myo-fascial relief.
The menu for the evening will be a modified potluck dinner. Salad and dessert will be provided. Those coming are invited, but not required, to bring a nutritious main dish or side dish to share, which will serve eight to 12 people. All food should be vegan (no meat, eggs or dairy products) and, if possible, organic and locally grown. The cost is $6 per person, or $2 for those who bring a dish to share. For more information or to make a reservation, call Gail Erb at 753-7761 (days or weekends), 753-2205 (evenings) or Anne Watkins at 782-4334 or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All meetings are open to the public. A person does not need to be vegan or vegetarian to attend a meeting. These are open to anyone who is interested in learning about healthy eating and living.
