A timely topic that affects Chautauqua Lake, as well as Lake Erie, is being addressed on Thursday.
The seminar on algal blooms and their impact on the health of the lakes will be discussed by Scott Kishbaugh. "Algal blooms are becoming a large concern for residents and visitors of Chautauqua County," said Doug Conroe, president of the CLA. "We're happy to have Mr. Kishbaugh in Chautauqua to speak on this hot topic and others."
Toledo, Ohio, was recently in the spotlight earlier this month when its water system was at risk due to the toxic problem on the western end of Lake Erie. The blooms have also forced recent beach closings along Chautauqua Lake.
There is no cost to attend the event, but donations for the sponsors - The Chautauqua Lake Association, Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy and Jamestown Audubon Society - are encouraged. The event will take place in the Hewes BOCES Center in Ashville at 7 p.m.
