What several witnesses described to authorities as a tornado was spotted shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday in Fredonia.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department reported it had numerous calls of tornado sightings in the Fredonia area, but received no reports of damage.
The Sheriff's Department also indicated its radar system looked clear, and the reported funnel cloud or water spout may have been just passing through.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo was contacted and said it was monitoring the situation.
Several photos sent to the OBSERVER appeared to show a water spout or funnel cloud, not a tornado, over Lake Erie.
