Margaret “Mindy” Bor-rello resigned as Forest-ville Village trustee Aug. 2 for personal reasons.
Johnson said he considered many candidates to appoint in Borrello's place.
"I considered several people for the job. When Gloria Yeager volunteered for the position, I thought she would be the best candidate," he said.
Yeager was unanimously appointed.
Yeager, a Republican, ran for election as a trustee in March 2013, having lost to Johnson and Borrello. Her husband, Richard, is a former mayor of the village and she is a retired nursing assistant at Lake Shore Hospital.
Yeager served on the former committee to examine the village's future and was recently appointed to the planning board.
Attorney Michael Sullivan explained, under local law, if there is a vacancy on the board when an election is scheduled, the positions must be put on the ballot. The village's elections were changed from March to November, making Nov. 4 the next election in the village.
Johnson said Yeager's and Dave McEntarfer's seats will be on the November ballot.
McEntarfer was appointed to the board when Johnson was elected mayor and vacated his trustee position.
In addition, Johnson said Yeager cannot serve on the village board and planning board. He said he spoke with alternate planning board member Barbara O'Connell and recommended appointing her to Yeager's spot. This was also unanimously approved.
The village board will not hold its regular Sept. 9 meeting due to primary elections. The next village board meeting will be Sept. 23. The Republican Caucus will be held Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in the municipal building. The zoning board of appeals and planning board will meet Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
