Melissa Bartok, Library Director of Mayville Library, holds a copy of “Remarkable Women in New York State History.” The Dunkirk-Fredonia Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) donated it to the public library in memory of Elizabeth Alday. Alday, a long-time member of AAUW, was still active in the organization at the age of 97. When she passed away in December 2013 at the age of 98, she left a remarkable legacy. “Remarkable Women in New York State History” was written by AAUW members and published by New York State AAUW. Included in this volume are several women from Chautauqua County. Copies of the book were also donated to the Dunkirk Free Library and the Darwin R. Barker Library.
