I know they were Phil,we have people in this country who have turned against us, for example the weather underground.(there are others as I'm sure you are well aware) The question remains is if we withdraw from the world stage will we then be immune from the radicals who hate our way of life?

JOEW just a reminder that of the 19 terrorists on 9/11/01, 15 of them were. From Saudi Arabia. None of them are our friends - they just want our money and our blood.
Phil not my desire to alienate you but if we sever all ties, all ties, with Saudi Arabia,Turkey,Kuwait,Bahrain,Morocco and Jordan) will that end the threat of attack by the militants and terrorists?
JOEW Tom Reeds free trip to Israel is an illustration of the power and influence of the Israeli lobby in Washington. Are you happy with the billions in aid that we send to Israel? Are you happy with the billions that we spent on Middle East wars? Does it bother you that we lost the lives of 5000 young Americans fighting those senseless wars? Would you be willing to sacrifice one of your children or grandchildren for the sake of a religious war?

Sorry about the duplicate post.
Phil I ask yet again, should we sever all ties with Israel, will that solve the issue(never to be attacked again)? I've been to Israel and I'm well aware of their capabilities. The trip by Tom Reed does not have a thing to do with the 93 & 01 attacks.
American hubris at its finest: We invade countries (lines on the map drawn by Western powers) whose tribes and religionists have been fighting each over for over 1,000 years - - and expect them to . . . what? Change? Really?
Look at Northern Ireland: Both sides were Irish, both sides were Christian; but they blew each other up for how many dozens and dozens of years?
Interesting read: Go to the Washington Post website and search on ‘Why we stuck with Maliki — and lost Iraq’ – written by the longest-serving diplomat we had there (2003-09), who advised 5 ambassadors and 3 heads of the US Central Command. And then shake your head...

joew - Israel has a strong military INCLUDING NUCLEAR WEAPONS. They are capable of fighting their own battles based on religious differences. The terrorism you mention was the result of our UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT OF ISRAEL. Did you know that our own congressman Tom Reed received an all expense paid trip to Israel? Why do you suppose they would do that? Are you aware of the huge sums of foreign aid that we send to Israel? Why do you think we do that? We are capable of solving a lot of problems but religions differences are not among them.

Phil are you aware of what motivated Sirhan Sirhan or what the motivation was for the 1993 and 2001 WTC attacks? Should we sever all ties with Israel?
Here's another suggestion for a poll question: Do you even CARE about "The Whispering Giant" enough to contribute personal or tax dollars for it's rejuvenation and maintenance?

Se, American HAS a sense of humor, and I like that, I don't care if someone has used President Obama's name, whomever, it was a JOKE, more about the Poll Question than anything.

Joey, those "well respected members of the community" are going to be VERY disappointed in you! But thanks for the 20 bucks I won! Anyway, you're still an arrogant ******* without a "set".
I thought it was Hillary in drag.
No I don't chuckle at warped jokes likening rats who murder, rape, torture and behead people with anyone including those I disagree with either politically or philosophically.
If I'd made a JOKE that the guy was probably Joe Biden or Bill Clinton, Joey would have chuckled.

Here is my suggestion for the next poll question:Have you contributed to the "Whispering Giant" fund,or have you watched the restoration process?
I agree DK especially since 90% of the people seeing this question have no clue and the usual less than intelligent remarks will be unleashed.
this who we're dealing with...radical Islam ...a quote from the Qur’an:9:5 - “Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”
Oh, c’mon – this is the best survey question the Observer could come up with today?
Might as well ask if we believe in the tooth fairy, Easter bunny or steinertrons.

I can't say for sure but I do know one thing for sure. The United States made a huge mistake getting involved. What is basically a religious struggle has been going on for centuries. What makes us think we can change that? Most of the middle east (except Israel) hates America and we have created an environment where our own country is no longer safe. Whether we are on an airplane, a public street or a large building we have to worry about being bombed. It's not a good way to live and as a result of our stupidity we lost nearly 5,000 lives and billions of dollars in a war that could not be justified. Let the middle east solve their own problems - we have enough problems of our own.

I thought it looked suspiciously like Dick Cheney. I could be wrong though.
