Lockport 9, Steelers 5

The Steelers ended the regular season in a shootout with Lockport. Simon Davis and Alex Paluch each scored twice with Tate Olson getting a goal and an assist. Lucas Pchelka and Joey Yeager each added a helper.

Micah Davis played strong defensively and Anthony Fitz-Gerald played in net.

Steelers 4, Niagara 1

The Steelers won their divisional semifinal playoff game against Niagara with their best performance of the season.

Niagara had beaten the Steelers in both previous matchups this season. Alex Paluch led the scoring with two goals and an assist. Captain Simon Davis had a goal and an assist, and Joey Yeager also scored for the Steelers.

Caleb Gornikiewicz and Chris Waterman each tallied an assist. Simon Davis played great at the blue line, and Anthony Fitz-Gerald sealed the game with a great performance in net.

The Steelers will play Saturday in Cheektowaga against the winner of Hamburg and Buffalo for the league championship.

Cattaraugus County Sports banquet

set for April 8

The 15th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame banquet is set for Saturday, April 8 at the Little Valley Legion beginning at 6 pm.

Twelve new members will be enshrined that evening during the awards ceremony.

This year’s class, as always, was selected based on their longevity, dedication and success in sports.

The new inductees include: Fred Caya, (Portville), Robert Jimerson, Sr. (Gowanda), D.J. Whitmore, (Salamanca), Barbara Duggan (Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Dick Edmunds, (Pioneer), Chad Lyter, (Allegany-Limestone), Bruno DeGiglio, (Olean), Susan Horton, (Ellicottville), Royce Ross, (Franklinville), Mike Williams, (West Valley) and Wayne Marsh, (Cattaraugus-Little Valley). Tommy “The Ironman” Irons (Olean) will be inducted posthumously.

Family and friends of this year’s inductees are encouraged to attend the event.

Dunkirk Baseball

comedy night

Nick Siracuse and friends will put on a comedy show Saturday, March 11 at the Dunkirk Moose Lodge.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the show slated to start at 7 p.m.

A cash bar and menu will be available, along with a Chinese auction and 50/50.

Donations are gladly accepted. Tickets are available at The Moose Lodge, Matt’s News and any varsity parent. Tickets are also available through varsity coach Frank Jagoda, by calling 785-4313.

The fundraiser is being used to help defray the cost of the Myrtle Beach Spring Baseball trip.
