Dunkirk Sports Boosters

There will be a meeting of the Dunkirk High Sports Booster today at 5 p.m. in room 101 at Dunkirk High School.

All parents, coaches and any other member of the community is welcome to attend.

Those attending are asked to use the front entrance at the High School.

Westfield baseball

spaghetti dinner

The Westfield varsity baseball parents are hosting a spaghetti dinner Sunday, March 12 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Westfield Moose.

Proceeds will help the team with their upcoming Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Tickets are $10 and $8 and are available at the door.

Forestville softball signups

Signups for Forestville youth softball will be held Tuesday, March from 5-8 p.m. in the Elementary School cafeteria. Girls ages 6-16 may sign up. They are asked to bring a copy of their birth certificate. The cost is $50 per child with discount for families with multiple children.

Cattaraugus County Sports Banquet Set for April 8

The 15th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame banquet is set for Saturday, April 8 at the Little Valley Legion beginning at 6 pm.

Twelve new members will be enshrined that evening during the awards ceremony.

This year’s class, as always, was selected based on their longevity, dedication and success in sports.

The new inductees include: Fred Caya, (Portville), Robert Jimerson, Sr. (Gowanda), D.J. Whitmore, (Salamanca), Barbara Duggan (Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Dick Edmunds, (Pioneer), Chad Lyter, (Allegany-Limestone), Bruno DeGiglio, (Olean), Susan Horton, (Ellicottville), Royce Ross, (Franklinville), Mike Williams, (West Valley) and Wayne Marsh, (Cattaraugus-Little Valley). Tommy “The Ironman” Irons (Olean) will be inducted posthumously.

Family and friends of this year’s inductees are encouraged to attend the event.

Dunkirk Baseball Comedy Night

Nick Siracuse and friends will put on a comedy show Saturday, March 11 at the Dunkirk Moose Lodge.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the show slated to start at 7 p.m.

A cash bar and menu will be available, along with a Chinese auction and 50/50.

Donations are gladly accepted. Tickets are available at The Moose Lodge, Matt’s News and any varsity parent. Tickets are also available through varsity coach Frank Jagoda, by calling 785-4313.

The fundraiser is being used to help defray the cost of the Myrtle Beach Spring Baseball trip.

Youth Swimming

Hammerhead Swim Club

The Hammerhead Swim Club members recently competed at the Niagara Swim Leagues Championship Qualifier meet, also known as the Silvers Meet.

In order to compete in this meet, swimmers had to achieve a Niagara Swim League cut time at a meet during the season. Hammerhead had 23 swimmers travel to the town of Tonawanda Aquatic Center to compete in the three-day event.

These 23 swimmers excelled during the meet, recording 55 Top 10 finishes, three new Gold times, one new Silver time, 3 NiSL Championship cut times and 45 Personal Bests.

The swimmers who competed were:

Matthew Dunn (2 gold and 2 personal best), Bill Osula (1 gold and 1 personal best), Sean Brown (1 silver), Julia LeBaron (1 champ and 1 personal best), Jenna Truby (1 champ and 1 personal best), Greta Frerichs (1 champ and 1 personal best), Lillee Gould (4 personal best), Amelia Harper (4 personal best), Tyler Donahue (3 personal best), Adam Fred (3 personal best), McKayla Polowy (3 personal best), Joshua Saye (3 personal best), Gabby Aldrich (2 personal best), Rachel Comstock (2 personal best), Owen Bates (2 personal best), Jane Fortna (2 personal best), Julia Spaccipolli (2 personal best), Max Comstock (personal best), Josiah Cox (personal best), Julia Fortna (personal best), Deidra Osula (personal best) and Abby Roth (personal best).
