Westfield Little League

Westfield Little League will be holding its opening day on May 6. The parade is scheduled to begin at Tops at 9 a.m. and finish at the Westfield Little League Field.

Opening ceremonies will immediately follow. Westfield Minor and Major teams will begin playing at 10:30 a.m.

Adult Golf

Hillview Golf Wednesday Night Ladies

The Wednesday Night Ladies League at Hillview will have a league meeting on Wednesday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse.

League play is set to begin on Wednesday, May 3.

The league has one team opening and four substitute players.

Vineyard Golf Course

Attention golfers of all skill levels, there is a new league forming on Wednesday nights at the Vineyard Golf Course on Berry Road.

This will be a 36-man league with two-person teams and handicap scoring. There will be a shotgun start at 5 p.m. and there will be food and drink available after golf for a minimal charge if interested. The league intends on starting in early May, weather permitting. There is also a league fee which is for prizes and a banquet dinner after the last week of golf.

There are a few more spots available and those who do not have a partner and are interested will be paired you up with another single golfer.

Wednesday Travel League

Ron Rys earned his third tour victory of the season, posting the low round of 81 at Blueberry Hill Golf Club in Russell, Pennsylvania.

Al Etzel finished second with 85. Mike Wolfe was low on the front nine with 39 and Rys was low on the back nine with 38. The B-Flight champion was John Bongiovanni. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jack Hood.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Wolfe (Nos. 1 and 8), Robert Calph (Nos. 3 and 7), Rys (Nos. 14 and 17) and Dave Franklin (No. 18); B Flight — Bob Thompson (Nos. 2 and 10), Tom Destro (Nos. 3 and 17), Pat Weaver (No. 12) and Bongiovanni (Nos. 14 and 16). Closest to the pin were Weaver (No. 4), Wolfe (No. 8) and Rys (No. 11).

Top point winners were Wolfe (34), Rys (21) and Thompson and Weaver (14 each). Season points leaders: Wolfe (89), Rys (76), Franklin (43), Thompson (34), Calph (31), Paul Olkowski (23) and Lenny Leszkowicz, Bongiovanni, Destro and Weaver (18 each).

This week the league makes its inaugural trip to Arrowhead Golf Club in Akron. Tee-off is at 10 a.m. Golfers need to be signed up with John by calling 785-2291 by Sunday night.
