Eighteenth annual Woody Keyser Memorial Softball Tournament to be held June 3 and 4

WESTFIELD, N.Y. -The Woody Keyser Modified Softball Tournament is slated for June 3 and 4. This year will mark the eighteenth annual event, which is held in Westfield, NY. All proceeds from this tournament go to the Woody Keyser Memorial Fund. Donations from the Fund are made in Woody’s name to local youth baseball and softball leagues.

Ten-man open modified softball teams are invited to participate in this family oriented- event. There will be a $275 entry fee. The top three teams will receive prize money. First and second place winner will also receive commemorative t-shirts, which are also available for purchase.

Wednesday Travel League

For a second straight week, a change of venue happened due to wet course conditions, so the league played Harbor Ridge in Harborcreek, PA. Ron Rys and Kerry Murphy each shot 77 for the low round, with Rys the overall winner on a tiebreaker.

Robert Calph shot 78. The low front nine score of 39 was shared by Al Etzel, Murphy, and Gary Richardson. The low back nine of 1-over par 37 was shot by Rys and Calph.

Rys recorded his third career eagle on the par-5 14th hole.

The B Flight winner was Dave Criscione, while Pat Weaver won the C Flight on a tiebreaker over Don Kujawa.

The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Gary Hazelton, whose 95 was the lowest score ever recorded by a Commissioner’s Award winner, breaking the previous record held by past Commissioners John Tofil, Brian Lore, and Weaver.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight-Tim Walawender (No.2), Murphy (No.8), Calph (No.11), and Rys (No.14-eagle); B Flight-Dave Herman (No.2); C Flight-Paul Olkowski (No.2), Weaver (Nos.3,5,7,&14), Dan Kaszuba (No.4), Kujawa (No.13) and Lenny Leszkowicz(No.16).

Closest to the pin were Mike Wolfe (No.3), Pete Gawron (No.8), Olkowski (No.12), and Murphy(No.17).

Top point-winners were Weaver (24), Olkowski 18), Murphy (17) and Rys (16). Season points leaders: Wolfe (111), Rys (92), Calph (72), Weaver (68), Dave Franklin (59), Bob Thompson (58), Olkowski (41), Walawender (35), Ed Tofil (34) and Gary Haase (27).

This week the league will venture to Ashtabula, Ohio for the first time to play Chapel Hills. Tee-off is at 10:00 a.m. It will also be the first rescheduled major of the season. Golfers need to be signed up with John (785-2291) by noon on Monday as foursomes will be drawn.
