Cassadaga Country Club

Wednesday Ladies League — (June 28) Low scores: Judy Mowery 45, DeeDee DuBois 47, Sue Grace 49, Linnea Nichols 49, Jodi Hoffman 51 and Janice Wintersteen 52. DuBois and Mary Kelley shot the low team net with 25. Skins went to Nichols (No. 2, birdie and No. 5, Par) and Cam Lawton (No. 9, par). Grace was closest to the pin on No. 6, Lawton and Gayle McKinney cashed in on the 50/50, and Lisa Cieslewicz won the lucky card game.

League play will be cancelled on July 26 for a 9-hole scramble tournament to benefit Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Anyone interested in playing, volunteering to help, sponsoring a hole or supporting the cause, may contact the Cassadaga Country Club at 595-3003.

Member-Guest Tournament — Mike and Tim Lancaster successfully defended their previous year Championship in the 2017 Cassadaga Country Club Member-Guest Tournament. The two-day best ball with handicap tournament was held June 24 – 25.

The Lancaster team posted a first day total of 60 to secure the first-round lead.

Mike Lawhead and guest Dean Ringler posted a first-day 61. In a tie at third place at 63 were the teams of Tim Lerow and guest Rick Fenton along with the team of Chris MacKrell and guest Fred Stern.

On the final day, the Lancasters posted a second score of 60 for the winning total of 120. Finishing in second place was the two-time championship team of Tim Bulger and guest Jim Henderson. Dan Kelly and guest Scott Jagoda won third place with a 125. To round out the top five, Tyler Lerow and guest Greg Johnston posted 126 with Chris MacKrell and guest Fred Stern posting 127.

9- and 10-year-old baseball

The Fredonia All-Stars defeated the Dunkirk All-Stars, 15-5, on Wednesday in Game 1.

Fredonia captured the lead in the first inning after scoring 3 runs.

Dunkirk matched it with a big inning of its own by scoring four runs in the second. The big inning was thanks to a double and a single by Jonathan Ganey.

Fredonia got back on top in the bottom half with eight runsin the second inning

Ashton Pultney earned the win for Fredonia. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowing five runs, eight hits and striking out five.

Zachary Zentz took the loss for Dunkirk. He tossed one and two-thirds innings, surrendering 11 runs, three hits and striking out one.

Dunkirk collected eight hits. Ganey and Thomas Shaffer each collected multiple hits for Dunkirk. Ganey went 3 for 3 at the plate to lead Dunkirk in hits.

Fredonia had five hits in the game. Colin Crowell and Colin Luce each collected multiple hits for Fredonia in the win.
