Cassadaga Country Club cancels league play for benefit

League play at Cassadaga Country Club will be cancelled on July 26 for a 9-hole scramble tournament to benefit Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Anyone interested in playing, volunteering to help, sponsoring a hole or supporting the cause, may contact the Cassadaga Country Club at 595-3003.

Chautauqua Jets Track & Field

The Chautauqua Jets track and field team have a youth and development program for kids in grades 5-8, to help better their skills and techniques. The program targets local Dunkirk boys and girls, but all Chautauqua County athletes are welcome to join.

Registration will be held on Thursday, July 6, at 7 p.m. at Dunkirk High School. At registration, youths will be required to pay a $20 USA Track and Field (USATF) membership fee along with a copy of their birth certificates. If for any reason a youth cannot pay the $20 fee, they can receive membership fee assistance — no youth will be turned away as a result of the fee.

The program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks, culminating into a special event that will be held August 11.

2017 Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament

The Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are progressing, “on the tee”. The 2017 tournament is set for Saturday, September 9, at Hillview/Vineyards golf courses in Fredonia. There will be prizes and/or games at each hole.

The registration fee of $65 per golfer includes food on the courses and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club.

Times for GTMGT being with registration at 9 a.m., shotgun start at 10 a.m. and dinner and awards at 4 p.m.

The deadline to sign up foursomes is Friday, September 1. Contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044.

Money raised from the past tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp colorectal cancer research fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia scholarship.

This was the last league round of golf for Joe Favata. Favata was one of the original members of the Gene Andolina League which started in 1994. He has moved to Florida permanently. A goodbye lunch was put on by Rich Mancuso and Warren Falkner at the Fireside. Joe was presented with a plaque which read “Good Luck Joe you will be missed”. The picture is of Joe Favata on the left and Rich Mancuso, the owner of the Vineyards Golf Course.

Thursday Night Men’s Golf League (June 22) — Tim Bulger 35, Steve Wintersteen 36, Matt Wallace 39, Randy Butts 41, Tom Gauronski 41, Mike Lancaster 41, Kerry Murphy 41, Aaron Beichner 42 and Kent Marsh 42. Low net: Wallace, net 33. Closest to the pin on hole No. 15 was Kent Marsh. Skins: Chip White (No. 12, birdie), Steve Wintersteen (No. 13, birdie) Rob Lancaster (No. 15, birdie) and Bulger (No. 17, birdie).

Post 434 Mens League — Gary Arnold led the way this week with an even par-36 followed by Doug Mason 38, Scott Jagoda 39, Jon Espersen 40 and Bob Remington 41. Brandon Presto, Jay Beers Dave Willebrandt and Adam Morello all shot 42. Closest to the pins were both won by Junior Martinez. Low net for the week was Mason with a net 26.
