Erie Golf Club
Wednesday Travel League — The league celebrated its 500th Event since records began in 2001. It was also the second major of the season, the Pennsylvania Open, and was held at Erie Golf Club in Erie, Pa. The overall winner was Robert Calph, who earned his first major victory with the low round of 79. Al Etzel was runner-up with 80. Etzel was low on the front nine with an even par-36, while Calph and Dave Mathews were low on the back nine with 39 each. In the B Flight, Tom Destro won on a tiebreaker over Joe Michalski. In the C Flight, Mike Willoughby won on a tiebreaker over Al Bradley and Ken Kaus. In the D Flight, Brian Lore won on a tiebreaker over Gary Hazelton and John Waterman. Milestone hit this week: Lore went over 1,000 career points. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Dan Kaszuba.
Untied birdies: A Flight, Calph( Nos. 1, 13 and 17), Etzel (No. 3), and Mathews (Nos. 7 and 14); B Flight, Ron Szach (Nos. 8 and 18), Dave Herman (No. 13), Dave Franklin (No. 14), and John Tofil (No. 16); C Flight, Tim Walawender (Nos. 1 and 16), Pete Gawron (No. 4), Willoughby (Nos. 6 and 7), Joe Bifaro (No. 9), Danny Kubera (No. 17); D Flight, Waterman (No. 3), Jim Ellman Sr. (No. 8), Lore (No. 9) and Jack Griswold (No. 1 & 7). Closest to the pins were Al Bradley (No. 4), Griswold (No. 8), Mike Wolfe (No. 12) and Mathews (No. 17).
Two special contests were held, a par-3 contest and most fives on the scorecard contest. Winners of the par-3 contest were: 1) Calph (even), 2) Tofil (+3), 3) Dave Miller, Frank Benamati and Bifaro (+4), 4) Griswold (+3). Winners of the most fives contest were: 1) Tony Destro, 2) Tom Destro, 3) Kubera, 4) Angelo Leone.
Top point winners were Calph 73, Mathews 46 and Griswold 36. Season points leaders: 1) Wolfe (236), 2) Calph (208), 3) Franklin (186), 4) Mathews (154), 5) Ron Rys (137), 6) Kubera (122), 7) Waterman (106), 8) John Bongiovanni (97), 9) Ken Kaus (86), 10) Pat Weaver(85).

Hillview Wednesday Night Ladies League
Week three had individual low net to Desi Coon with a 31. Individual low gross, Charity Mucha 49. The team of Kathy Hart/Vicki Clark earned team low net with combined score of 70. Team low gross went to Carroll Nalepa/Charity Mucha with a 106. Fewest putts, Linda Kemp with 15.
Week four individual low net score went to Mimi Smith with a 26. Sue Cave and Mimi Smith tied for individual low gross with a 49. Team low net and team low gross went to Mimi Smith/Linda Kemp with a combined score of 58 and 106. Fewest Putts was Barb Vandette with 14. Carroll Nalepa had a birdie on hole No. 6.

Fredonia Blue Devil Summer Basketball Camp

2017 Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament
The Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are progressing, “on the tee”. The 2017 tournament is set for Saturday, September 9, at Hillview/Vineyards golf courses in Fredonia. There will be prizes and/or games at each hole.
The registration fee of $65 per golfer includes food on the courses and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club.
Times for GTMGT being with registration at 9 a.m., shotgun start at 10 a.m. and dinner and awards at 4 p.m.
The deadline to sign up foursomes is Friday, September 1. Contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044.
Money raised from the past tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp colorectal cancer research fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia scholarship.
Fredonia Central School Girls Basketball Camp 2017
The 2017 Fredonia Central School Girls Basketball Camp will be held from June 27-30 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Fredonia High School and Middle School gym. Cost is $105 per camper or $90 if paid by June 1 (deduct $10 if 5 or more students from the same school attend camp and send in their applications together). The camp is for kids entering grades 3-12.

Each player is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 8:55 am. Camp will start promptly at 9 am. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch. There will be cold pop, water and Gatorade for sale at lunch time and at the end of the day. All athletes should have their ride pick them up at 3:30 pm. All parents are welcome to come to the awards ceremony at 3:00 on Friday.
