DHS/CMHA FHS 8th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament
On Friday, Aug. 4, Shorewood C.C. will host the DHS/CMHA/FHS 8th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament. The cost is $80 and includes: golf, a cart, box lunch, beverages and a dinner and dessert buffet. There will be a live WDOE broadcast of the event by radio sports announcer, Dan Palmer. Before the shotgun scramble start at 9 a.m., there will be registration in the “grove” next to the pro-shop. Also, a group photo at 8:30 a.m., before honorary starters Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas and Jack Shubert begin the tourney at 9 a.m. Non-golfer dinner costs $25 per person, and there will be a cash bar at 2 p.m. as well as dinner at 3 p.m. There will be trophies, door prizes and a silent auction following dinner. There is also a $500 hole-in-one competition sponsored by Mary Asher in memory of Tom Asher. The 2017 youth organization recipients will be the Dunkirk-Fredonia Little League and girls’ softball programs. Any questions, please call Bill’s cell at 302-379-1882.
Gowanda’s Gateway Park to host sporting events on July 29/30
The new Gateway Park to Zoar Valley located on Palmer Street in the Village of Gowanda will host two sporting events on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30. A youth football camp sponsored by the Gowanda American Legion for athletes ages 7-12 will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The registration fee is $5. An old timers slow pitch softball game and reunion picnic will take place the following night beginning at 6 pm. Cassadaga Valley Midget Football
The Cassadaga Valley Midget Football program will be conducting equipment handouts from 9:00am-12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, at the storage facility on Route 60 across from the Valley Shack in Sinclairville. Anyone who has not yet signed up can come that day and sign up. Players and cheerleaders who turn six years old before Aug. 1 through age 8 will be eligible for flags, and those from age nine years old and will not be 12 until after Aug. 1 can play tackle.
Please bring a birth certificate and a physical form for each athlete. Cost is $65 per athlete, $85 for two and $105 for over two. If you have any questions, call Jeff at 499-2244.
Chautauqua Institution run/walk
RUN/WALK 2.7 miles at beautiful Chautauqua Institution. Saturday, July 29, 8 a.m., $25 donation includes a magnificent T-shirt, age group awards (10 year brackets). Proceeds benefit Chautauqua Fund. Admission to Chautauqua Institution free for the race.
Fredonia Youth Cheerleading Camp
Children ages 5-15 are invited to attend the cheerleading clinic Monday, Aug. 14 and Tuesday, Aug. 15 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The camp is designed to help the Fredonia University Cheerleaders raise money for Nationals, which is held in Disney World.
The cost is $30 per participant. The clinic will include 1) Learning how to cheer and dance to perform at a boys soccer game. 2) Free bow and T-shirt to wear to the game and second practice. 3) Fun games, stunting and team building exercises. 4) Personal attention from the Fredonia Cheerleaders.

1st Annual DLBA Golf Tournament is set
The 1st Annual Dunkirk Lakeshore Bowling Association Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Rose Brook Golf Course, Beebe Road, Silver Creek. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and a shotgun start will begin at 11 a.m. This four-person scramble will award prizes in the men, women and mixed divisions. The cost is $75/person, $300/team. This entry fee includes golf, cart, on-course contests, lunch at the turn and appetizers after golf. Chinese auctions and other drawings will add to the fun! Anyone interested may contact PJ Azzarella at 785-1265 to make a reservation. Checks may be made out to “DLBA” and mailed to PJ Azzarella, 2369 Agassiz Drive, Lakeview, NY 14085 in advance. Space is limited to 100 golfers, so make your reservation today!

Vineyards Golf Course
Friday Night Couples’ League — It was a beautiful night for golf for all the couples that played on Friday night at the Vineyards. Scores ranged from 33-36 and closest to pin on No. 1 was won by Jude Gardner. After golf, a full chicken dinner was served and then gift certificates to local restaurants were given out to three lucky golfers. This golf outing is open to all golfers no matter how your golf skills are. To participate, please sign up at the Vineyards no later than Thursday afternoon or you can call the Vineyards at 672-7888 to be added to the list.
