Announcements
Jr. Home Run Derby May 26 in Dunkirk
Mayor Wilfred Rosas is proud to announce the Jr. Home Run Derby 2018 is coming to Dunkirk.
“Every year we get requests into my office asking for more opportunities for our young people to become involved in summertime activities. Those requests have not gone unnoticed and our recreation department coordinator, Ryan Hall has stepped up to the plate, literally.” Mayor Rosas said.
The City of Dunkirk’s Youth and Recreation Department is proud to announce that there will be a Jr. Home Run Derby for our boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14 on Saturday, May 26 at Prommenschenkel Stadium beginning at noon.
Rosas said, “This event will be an opportunity for our young boys and girls to participate in an exciting home run hitting contest.”
The Major League Baseball Jr. Home Run Derby is a free national program that will test the skills and power to determine the best home run hitters in the country. There are three levels of competition. Each player must first participate in a local competition with the champion from each age group advancing to the regional competition and then on to the national competition to be held prior to the MLB Home Run Derby during the MLB All-Star Week.
“This will be the first year for this event here in the City of Dunkirk, and I am excited for this opportunity for our young boys and girls.” Rosas said.
Along with Rosas throwing out the first pitch, several Dunkirk city councilmen and staff members will be on-site to participate in the activities.
In addition to the home run contest, there will be food, music, wiffleball, and a movie at dusk. The registration date is May 23 at the recreation office. For more information call 366-9885 or 366-9886; email rhall@cityofdunkirk.com.
