Men’s Senior Baseball League

Pro-Bats Yankees 11, Whiskey Hill Saloon Marlins 4

The Yankees (6-1) pounded out 11 hits and batted around in the both the third and sixth innings, leading to victory over the Marlins. Matt Eaker, Max Schrantz (two RBI) and Jason Howard each had two hits for the Yanks, while Waxy Gawronski, Stony Woodard (triple) and Allan Carmello all had two RBI of their own. Eaker ran his record to 3-0 on the hill, with relief help from Gawronski. The pair walked two and struck out four Marlins. For the Fish, Doug Gerald did it all with two hits and two runs scored while pitching a complete game. Eric Fermier doubled; Mike Fermier and Cheyenne Morano had the other Marlins hits.

Pro-Bats Yankees 2, Lil Magill’s Giants 0

In an outstanding pitcher’s duel, the Yankees (7-1) edged the Giants; a game that featured several defensive gems. The Yank’s Justyn Vara (4-0) pitched his 2nd complete game of the season , with no walks and five strikeouts. Brent Carmello (sac fly) and Billy Shaw (single) had the lone RBI in the game, while Evan Carmello scored both Bomber runs. Joe Polichetti and Vara also doubled for the Yanks. Josh Strzelac pitched a complete game of his own for the Giants, allowing seven hits and striking out four Yankee batters. The Giant’s Jared Aiken was the hitting star of the game, going 3 for 3, while Jason Tomkiewicz reach base twice. Jason Howard, Allan Carmello and Shaw made outstanding defensive plays to help preserve the shutout for the Yanks. Aiken prevented two Yankee runs in the sixth inning with an outstanding diving catch which led to a double play.

Par Tee Girls (July 3) — Gross: Kim Underwood – 49 with the net of 36, Trudy Gollnitz – 50 with the net of 35, Caroline Rawlinson – 50 with the net of 37, Eileen La Porte – 50 with the net of 31, Colleen Paradis – 50 with the net of 35, Amy Swanson – 51 with the net of 37, Margie Coran – 51 with the net of 33.

The league prize this week, lowest combined score for teams, goes to two groups because of a tie. The winners are Val Gelsimino/Trudy Gollnitz and Colleen Paradis/ Diane Enser.

(July 3) — (U-6) — Storer’s Cyclones tied Lula Roe w/ Sarah Gilbert, 3-3 Scoring for Storer’s Cyclones was Dominic Armstrong with two goals and Simon Lawson with one goal. Scoring for Lula Roe was Donald Easton with two goals and Evelyn Gilbert with a goal for the tie.

Shur Fine had the victory over Roy G Biv 4-2. Scoring for Shur Fine was Antonio Bonasera with two goals, and Jake Skinner and Daniel Russell with one goal. Scoring for Roy G Biv was Brayden Beichner (assist Violet Walker) and James McChesney (assist Beichner) .

(U-8) — Barney’s Hoof Trimming had the victory over Park Church 6-1. Scoring for Barney’s was Caleb Anderson with three goals, Taylor Lahnen with two goals and Makenzie Lahnen with one goal. Scoring for Park Church was Logan Marcucci.

Homestead Stables had the victory over Jamestown Macadam 5-4. Scoring for Homestead Stable was Brody Hawkins with five goals. Scoring for Jamestown Macadam with three goals was Kristyn McVey and with one goal, Logan Simpson.

(U-11) — Bethany Camp topped Library Bookworms, 2-1. Scoring for Bethany Camp was Madilyn Sober and Parker McLane. Scoring for Library Bookworms was Nevaeh Hebner.

SKM had the victory over KCR Enterprises 5-0. Scoring for SKM was Emiley Anderson with three goals and Reese McKay and Ashlynn Smith each with one goal.

(U-16) — Southern Tier Land won over Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit, 4-1. Scoring for Southern Tier was Noah Richner with two goals, Grace Elder (assist Noah Richner), and Alex Reynold (Braeden Singular assisted) each with one goal. Scoring for Southern Chautauqua FCU was Kole Hawkins.

MK Mustangs tied Gerry Free Methodist 1-1. Scoring for MK was Dominic Huston and scoring for Gerry Free Methodist was Ace Pierce (assist John Brockelbank) for the tie.

Final Gary Tripp golf tourney planned

The Tenth and Final Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are progressing and on the First Tee. The 2018 tournament is set for Saturday, August 25 at the Hillview and Vineyards golf courses in Fredonia. Registration starts at 9 a.m. The shotgun start is at 10 a.m.

The registration fee of $65 per golfer includes food on the course and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club and a golfer’s gift. Captains’ foursome forms are being sent out the week of July 2.

The deadline to sign up is Monday, Aug. 6. Contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044. Extra foursome forms and sponsor forms will be available at the K Club.

Monies raised from past tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp Colorectal Cancer Research fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School Scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia Scholarship.

Fredonia State diving camp July 9-13

Fredonia State will conduct a springboard diving camp July 9-13 at the Steele Hall Natatorium. Novice to college divers from ages 6 to 18 are welcome. Divers can attend in half day or full day sessions. The camp hosts resident divers as well as commuters. Instruction will emphasize proper techniques on the board, in the air and entries into the water. The pool is equipped with three boards, trampoline and dryboard with spotting belts.
