Final Gary Tripp golf tournament is today
The Tenth and Final Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are progressing and on the First Tee. The 2018 tournament is today at the Vineyards golf courses in Fredonia. Registration starts at 9 a.m. The shotgun start is at 10 a.m.
The registration fee of $65 per golfer includes food on the course and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club and a golfer’s gift. Contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044. Extra foursome forms and sponsor forms will be available at the K Club.
Monies raised from past tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp Colorectal Cancer Research fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School Scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia Scholarship.
5K Glow Run/Walk takes place tonight
The third annual GLOW Your Mind 5K Run/Walk will take place tonight at 8:30 p.m. at the Northwest Arena, 319 W. Third St. in Jamestown.
The glow run is being put on through the collaboration of The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention, Chautauqua Tapestry, and Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene. Timing and race management will be provided by Chautauqua Striders. The partnership came out of the groups’ common goal to generate awareness that mental wellness and physical wellness are of equal importance in everyone’s lives.
Registration and race packet pick-up will be from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. outside the arena. The run and walk will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will follow a route through residential neighborhoods in Jamestown.
After the race, an “After Glow” party, managed by Eventz by Scott will be held outside of the arena. The party will feature snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and live music by DJ Xcite Sound. Awards will also be presented to the top overall male and female finishers and the top male and female finishers in each age group.

All of the proceeds raised by the event stay local and will be used for suicide prevention efforts in Chautauqua County.
Lucky Lanes Junior Bowling meeting Monday
Lucky Lanes Junior Bowling will hold an organizational meeting on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Lucky Lanes. The agenda will consist of discussion of league rules, season schedule, registration, USBC news, coaching, tournaments, scholarships and any new topics. SUNY Fredonia kids’ hockey camp Aug. 27-30
The SUNY Fredonia Hockey Camp for boys and girls ages 5-12 will be held Aug. 27-30. It runs from Monday through Thursday from 10 to 11:15 a.m. in the Steele Hall Ice Arena. Blue Devils hiring men’s basketball asst. coach
Fredonia State is currently accepting applications for a part-time men’s basketball assistant coach.
The assistant coach will report directly to the head coach and assist in all aspects of the program, including coaching, scheduling, recruiting, budgeting, fundraising, film breakdown and travel arrangements.
Qualified candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree and have collegiate playing experience, and must be willing and able to travel and work a flexible schedule; demonstrate a commitment to diversity and the needs of a diverse faculty, staff, students and university; and work in collaboration with colleagues for program growth and enhancement.
