Wednesday Travel League

Robert Calph posted the low round of 78 at Jackson Valley Golf Club in Warren, PA, giving him 12 wins on tour this season. That ties him with Kerry Murphy (2005) and Ed Tofil (2013) for most wins in a season. With his 21st career win, Calph moved into a tie with Butch Mackowiak for 9th place on the All-time wins list. Calph led both the front nine (38) and back nine (40). Dave Wallace finished second with 81 and Bob Thompson was third with 83. Bill Aldrich was the B Flight champion. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Gary Hazelton.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Mike Wolfe (No. 3), Wallace (Nos. 4, 16), Mike Guziec Sr. (Nos. 6, 9), Thompson (No. 8) and John Bongiovanni (No. 15); B Flight — Ken Kaus (Nos. 5, 16), Don Kujawa (No. 6), Bob Welch (No. 7), John Tofil (Nos. 12, 13) and Aldrich (No. 18). Closest to the pin were Calph (No. 2), Guziec (No. 6), Thompson (No. 8), John Tofil (No. 12) and Bongiovanni (No. 15).

Top point winners were John Tofil (31), Guziec (27) and Thompson (23). Season points leaders: 1. Wolfe (591), 2. Dave Franklin (268), 3. Pat Weaver (260), 4. Tim Walawender (238), 5. Calph (237), 6. Thompson (235), 7. John Waterman (233), 8. Tom Destro (221), 9. Pete Gawron (214), 10. Jim Szalkowski (211).

This week the league makes its inaugural visit to Lake View Country Club in North East, PA. The first group tees off at 10 a.m. Openings exist, but for this event, golfers must be signed up with John (785-2291) by Noon Monday, no exceptions.

City of Dunkirk to host martial arts program

The Family Martial Arts Center and The Karate Kidz Zone have partnered with the city of Dunkirk to once again host a two week free karate seminar. The program is geared for all ages 2-18 years of age. Our purpose is to assist in positive role models, healthy living, building confidence, self defense and to encourage children to be involved with the great out doors.

¯Children ages two through six years old will enjoy the knowledge and fun shared with The Karate Kidz Zone program on Wednesdays 5 p.m. until 5:40 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. until 11:40 a.m. weekly.

¯Students ages seven and up will be instructed by The Family Martial Arts Center program. The sessions for these ages are Monday’s 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays 6 p.m. until 6:50 p.m. and Saturdays 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. weekly.

All interested families may call 672-6683 for more information or simply just stop by during any scheduled sessions. There is no start or end date.

Chautauqua Tennis Club Open House Oct. 28

The Chautauqua Tennis Club will be hosting a New Member Open House on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1-4 p.m. Come and join us for an afternoon of fun and refreshments. Learn about this well-kept secret where you can play tennis during the winter months right here in your own backyard. Members will be available to answer questions and membership forms will be available. Enjoy an entertaining junior and adult match and register for door prizes. The club is located at Floral Hall on the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds.
