BROCTON — The Clymer Pirates put together a strong performance Tuesday night and proved why they are one of the top teams in CCAA West 2 boys high school basketball with a 65-40 victory.

Four different players scored in double figures, led by Dustin Neckers’ 16 points and five rebounds. Josh VanEarden contributed in the win with 14 points while Robert Overton and Justin Spetz combined for 23 points. Dylan Davis had 12 rebounds for the winners.

“While watching them in summer leageu, I thought they would be strong,” Brocton coach Matt Seiberg said. “I thought we needed to execute for the whole game to hang with. We aren’t there yet, but we will take it step by step. I was impressed with Clymer.”

Garrett McFadden led Brocton with 19 points.

The Bulldogs hung tough in the first half as they trailed just 18-13 after the first quarter and remained within striking distance, trailing 31-22 at halftime.

However, the Pirates proved to be too much, outscoring the home team 34-19 in the second half.

“I am seeing they are attempting to get better at the things we are struggling with,” Seiberg said of his team. We are learning on the fly and I think (Tuesday) was an eye opener that we have a lot of things to work on.”

The Bulldogs travel to Westfield on Thursday.
