Dunkirk/Silver Creek, Fredonia have fast times at Buffalo State

BUFFALO — The Dunkirk/Silver Creek indoor track and field team had another strong showing Friday Night at Buffalo State College.

For the girls, the 4×400 relay team of Emilee Hanlon, Jericha Petrella, Jaylah Cossin and Emma Seiders took first place with a  time of 4:21.8.

Individually, Hanlon took first in the 300, with Petrella taking third with times of :44.6 and :46.0, respectively.

Hanlon also won the high jump with a leap of 5-feet-0 inches. Teammate Faith Rivera took fourth in the same event and also fourth in the long jump at  14-1.

The 4×800 relay of Julia Kennedy, Ellie Decker, Juliana Flick and Yuribeth Castro took third in 12:08.

“I’m very impressed with the group of girls we have,” Dunkirk coach Adam Woelfle said. “They can all run a multitude of events and find success. This season will continue to be impressive and I foresee lots of faster times in the coming weeks.”

The Dunkirk boys had some strong performances starting with Chris Michalski and Nelson Estrada-Cruz, racing for third and fourth in the 600-meter dash with times of 1:32.7 and 1:32.9, respectively.

In the 300, Juan Dumas took second in :38.8, Dontrelle Clemons took third in :39.4 and Brian Cox took fourth at :41.0.

The 4×800 relay team of Devin Eddy, Efrain Santiago, Anthony Ruiz and Estrada-Cruz took first in 9:44. And the 4×200 team of Estrada-Cruz, Ruiz, Cox and Jon Tirado placed second in 1:45.7.

Cox also took third in the high jump with a leap of 5-6.

“The boys are a talented group with lots of options available,” Woelfle said. “I look forward to seeing how they progress throughout the season and find their events. There is a lot of motivation within them that will take them far.”

The Fredonia girls also had a strong showing as Emily Brown placed first in the 600 at 1.00.51, and second in the 1,500 at 5:29. Teammate Lydia Lanski was fourth in the 55 hurdles at :9.6 and third in the high jump at 4-8. Claire Stokes placed second in the high jump at 4-8 and fourth in the triple jump at 28-10 1/4.

Georgie Gens placed fifth in the triple jump at 28-7 1/2.

“We are real happy with the performance of the team for our first indoor track meet of the year,” Fredonia coach Mike Marshall said.

Dunkirk and Fredonia will be in action next Saturday at Fredonia State.
