Gowanda wins Springville tourney
SPRINGVILLE — Jermani Benton and Nate Brawdy combined for 39 points to lead the Gowanda Panthers to a 67-40 victory over Springville in the championship game of the Springville boys basketball Holiday Tournament.
Benton had 21 points and seven assists while Nate Brawdy had 18 points and 14 rebounds.
The Panthers came out hot from the beginning as they took a 23-10 lead after the first quarter and a commanding 42-16 halftime advantage.
“We clicked on all cylinders,” Gowanda coach Andy Bobseine said. “Springville is a good team. They are 4-2. They had a close one with Silver Creek last week. We knew it would be a good game, so it was good to see us have such a good start.”
Gowanda outscored the host team 35-24 in the second half, but would have liked to seen a better performance from his team in the final 16 minutes.
“We are winning these games, but we are still not completely jelling,” he said. “Once we can do that, we will be scary good. Our transition offense was incredible. We havent had that in Gowanda for a while. It’s definitely a difference maker.”
Gowanda is back in action next Friday when it opens league play against Silver Creek.
