Lycoming tops Devils

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Fredonia men’s basketball team fell 67-45 to Lycoming in the opening round of the Basinger Memorial Tournament on Thursday. Richard De La Cruz led the Fredonia (3-7) with 10 points.

Lycoming improved to 11-1, and was paced by Willie Kee’s 14 points.

De La Cruz opened the game with a 3-pointer to give Fredonia the initial lead. Lycoming responded with the next five points.

With 8:25 remaining in the half, a Tommie Banks layup pulled the Devils to within one, 20-19. From that point on, the Warriors gradually pulled away, holding a 43-27 lead at the break.

Lycoming outscored the Devils, 22-20, in the second half to seal the win.

Ian Helps and Kareem Brown chipped in seven points apiece, and Brown and Dante Williams had eight rebounds apiece.

Lycoming held a 43-40 advantage on the boards, and both teams experienced a cold night in long-range shooting. Fredonia was six of 33 from beyond the arc, and Lycoming was two of 20.

Fredonia plays in the consolation game today.
