Morrison’s late bucket helps FHS to 53-52 win over Wahconah

SYRACUSE — Grace Morrison’s basket with seven seconds left in the fourth quarter Friday night helped Fredonia (4-2) to a 53-52 win over Wahconah in the consolation final of the Bishop Ludden Holiday Tournament.

Trailing in the final frame, the Lady Hillbillies held Wahconah scoreless over the final 4:24 of regulation while Caitlin Cybart added six of her 10 points over the last 3:26 to help Fredonia to the come-from-behind win.

Wahconah led 13-10 after the first quarter and 29-26 at halftime, before entering the fourth quarter with a 46-41 edge. The Lady Hillbillies then tightened up their defense, leading to a 12-6 advantage over the game’s final eight minutes.

Hannah Cybart, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led all scorers with 24 points while adding a team-high 10 rebounds to finish with the double-double. Morrison finished with five points in the win.

For Wahconah, Amelia Dougherty had a team-high 15 points while MeKenna McIlquham had 13 of her own.

The Lady Hillbillies are back in action on Tuesday when they host arch rival Dunkirk (0-4) at 7:30 p.m.
