Pencek shines at Festival of Lights Tournament
TONAWANDA — The Dunkirk girls and boys varsity bowling teams competed in the Festival of Lights Tournament on Tuesday, which was held at Tonawanda Lanes.
The format was a three-game set in the morning, followed by a three-game set in the afternoon.
After the morning round, the girls were in 12th place out of 18 teams. The boys were 18th out of 24. In the morning session, Adrianna Pencek led the girls team with a 186-158-193-537. Olivia Corbett had a high game of 175 and Tiana White a 166.
The boys team was led by Tristan Skelly’s 179-175-208-562 while Johnathan Collins cracked a 138-192-174-504 series.
In the afternoon, the girls came back strong and ended up finishing in sixth place overall.
Webster Thomas took the top spot with a 5,197 followed by West Seneca West 5,174, Tonawanda 5,135, Orchard Park 5,076 and Niagara Wheatfield took fifth at 4,866.
Pencek led the team again, bowling a 213-231-191-635. Combining this series with the morning series earned Pencek the top overall series of the day with a 1,172, beating out all other lady bowlers in the tournament. Corbett added games of 189-166-124-479 and Mariah Glowniak had a 190 game.
The boys struggled in the afternoon as they ended up finishing 23 out of 24 teams. Skelly led the boys again with a 161-188-179-528. Johnathan Collins had a 186 game.
