Cheatham chosen SUNYAC Player of Week

CORTLAND — For the third time this season, Fredonia’s Alexis Cheatham has been named SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

A senior guard, Cheatham averaged 20 points in two conference wins last week. She had seven points in overtime, including a four-point play, in the Blue Devils’ 73-70 win Jan. 24 at Brockport. She followed that 19-point game with 21 points in a 81-60 home win over Buffalo State.

She is averaging 15.1 points per game, tied with sophomore teammate Jenna Einink (Westfield/Chautauqua Lake) for third in the SUNYAC. Cheatham leads the conference in three-point baskets — 61 — which is also sixth in NCAA Division 3. She is also SUNYAC’s current assist leader (74 total; 3.9 per game).

Including a school-record 69 3-pointers last season, Cheatham is 230 of 678 on three-point attempts over four seasons — both school record numbers and third among NCAA Division 3 active current leaders.

Cheatham’s previous SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards this season came on Nov. 28 and Dec. 12.
