SINCLAIRVILLE — The short-handed Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars (4-7, 0-2) dropped a 64-12 verdict to the Panama Lady Panthers (7-3, 3-0) on Thursday in CCAA West 2 girls high school basketball action.

The Lady Cougars were missing two starters and the Lady Panthers jumped out to a 28-4 lead after the first quarter and held a comfortable 44-8 halftime lead.

Panama outscored the home team, 20-4, in the second half for the win.

“I give (Panama coach) Jeff Angeletti a lot of credit,” Cassadaga Valley coach Kristine Krenzer said. “They have a good program. They worked their offense and moved the ball around. We just couldn’t get the ball to go in for us (Thursday).”

Natalie Angeletti led Panama with 11 points and Nicole Johnson had 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Lauren Barmore contributed in the win with four rebounds, six steals and as many assists while Abi Lisciandro had seven rebounds. Teammate Ellie Angeletti had six boards in the win.

Mikayla Falkner and Amber Morrison each had four points to lead the Lady Cougars. Morrison also had six rebounds while Savannah Nickerson and Jewelee Schauman combined for five steals.

The three combined for 55 of the team’s points as Blanchard led the way with 21 points. Lynn had 19 and Iuculano had 15. Dani Gray controlled the boards with 10 rebounds while Lynn and Amanda Dilts each had seven rebounds.

“Our girls played pretty good,” Westfield coach Dave Mathews said. “Frewsburg is tough. They are a good team. We had been handling their pressure pretty good. This is the first time we had too many turnovers that hurt us.”

Westfield returns to action Saturday when it plays Maple Grove at Jamestown Community College.

PINE VALLEY 61, NORTH COLLINS 19

SOUTH DAYTON — The Pine Valley Lady Panthers (9-0) continued their winning ways Thursday with a 61-19 victory over the North Collins Lady Eagles (0-7) in CCAA East 2 girls basketball.

“We always start slow in the first half and seem to find our rhythm in the second half,” Pine Valley coach Bryelle Cortright said. “What we want is to put it together for a full game. We gave up too much to North Collins in the first half, but we were able to find easy shots in the second half, which was nice to see.”

Despite what Cortright called a slow start, the Lady Panthers held a 15-8 lead after the first quarter and led 31-15 at the half.

Pine Valley went on to outscore North Collins 30-4 in the second half to secure the win.

Kelly Andrews led Pine Valley with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kaylee Crisanti added 12 points and four steals while Zoe Nelson chipped in nine points in the win.

Destiny Nelson scored nine points in the loss for North Collins.

Pine Valley is back in action Tuesday against Franklinville.
