Joshua Saye earned a Sectional time, but in the end, Frewsburg/Southwestern swam past the Dunkirk/Cassdaga Valley/Fredonia/Brocton Narwhals, 101-74, Tuesday in CCAA boys high school swimming and diving.

Saye took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.58. Meanwhile, in the 100 butterfly, Matt Zevenbergen placed first at 1:03.42. In the 100 freestyle, Tyler Donahue touched the wall first with a time of :54.71.

A second-place finish and new Sectional time in the medley relay was obtained by the team of Donahue, Mat Brockelbank, Sean Brown and Saye with a time of 1:54.74.

“This was the race of the evening, as the top two relays came in a mere 4/100ths apart,” Narwhals coach Allie Saye said. “When Joshua hit the water for the freestyle, we were behind by a couple of body lengths. By the time they hit the turn, he’d almost caught up. It really came down to the touch and the clock to see who’d come out on top.”

In the 100 breaststroke: Brockelbank earned a Class B time of 1:13.29. In the 200 freestyle, Matt Zevenbergen was second while Donahue was second in the 50 freestyle.

The Narwhals return to action Thursday when they host Olean on Senior Night.
