Stanbro leads Hornets past Eagles

NORTH COLLINS — Kalvin Stanbro scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to help the Forestville Hornets (4-4, 2-1) leave North Collins (2-9, 0-3) with a 54-45 victory in CCAA East 2 boys high school basketball.

Trent Hartloff did the damage in the first half with all 10 of his points, and Stanbro took over in the second half. Stanbro also had 13 rebounds and four steals in the win.

“I think he was looking for his shot more in the second half,” Forestville coach Ralph Jackson said. “We were trying to get the ball to the post. We went to Hartloff in the first half and Stanbro in the second half.”

Stanbro had 11 of his team’s 13 third-quarter points.

The Hornets allowed the Eagles to keep the game close as they missed 11 free throws in the final quarter.

Lewis Markham contributed in the win with seven rebounds while Hartloff added seven boards and four assists.

North Collins was led by Brandon Zielinski’s 17 points

Forestville hosts first place Ellicottville on Friday.

FRANKLINVILLE 75, PINE VALLEY 50

SOUTH DAYTON — Sam Erickson had a game-high 35 points Wednesday night, helping Franklinville (7-3, 2-1) to an easy 75-50 win over CCAA East 2 foe Pine Valley (7-4, 1-2).

Franklinville jumped out to a 21-13 lead after the first eight minutes, then took a commanding 42-26 lead into the break. The Panthers then outscored the home team, 33-24, in the second half for the 25-point win.

Helping Erickson, who had three of Franklinville’s eight 3-pointers, was Darren Clark, who finished with 17 points in the win.

For Pine Valley, Zach Mansfield had a team-high 16 points while Gilberto Ortiz chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Also for Pine Valley, Dylan Chase had nine points.

CCAA East 1

SALAMANCA 66, GOWANDA 60

SALAMANCA — By scoring the final nine points of the game, Salamanca was able to defeat Gowanda, 66-60, in Division 1 East play.

Joe Sherlock had 4 points and Hercules Rasha scored 2 points during the final 1:10 after the Warriors  (10-3, 3-1) tied the game at 60-all on a Zeus Henriquez 3-pointer.

Salamanca got off to a 23-11 start as Enriquez scored 12 points in the first quarter, but Gowanda battled back and was in control until the final few minutes.

Enriquez wound up with 24 points followed by Rasha and Sherlock with 17 apiece for the winners. Enriquez also had 18 rebounds while Sherlock and Rasha added six each.

Jermani Benton netted 20 points, Nate Brawdy had 15 points and Matt Kruszka scored 10 points for Gowanda (6-5, 1-2).
