BROCTON — Good ball movement opened up the offense Saturday night for the Chautauqua Hurricane (4-2), as they toppled the Washington Warhawks, 121-114, in Premier Basketball League action at Brocton Central School.

“We jumped on them early and were able to hold on for the remainder of the game,” Hurricane head coach Jerome Moss said. “We had very good ball movement in the beginning of the game and we were able to find the open man with the extra pass and we were able to get really good shots.”

The Hurricane jumped out to a 36-20 lead after the first quarter and took a 62-52 lead into the break. Washington outscored Chautauqua, 62-59, in the second half.

Tyquan Storoman led a group of five Chautauqua players in double-digits with a game-high 30 points while adding six assists.

“He had a very good weekend,” Moss said. “He had an injury Friday night, but was able to come back in and then he was able to come out (Saturday) and have a strong game. He put up 30 points and six assists, so he had a very good weekend.”

Also scoring 10 or more points for the Hurricane were Reuben Berry (13 and 13 rebounds), Maurice Greene (22 points, nine rebounds), Edwin Ubiles (15 points, five assists) and Devin Dawson, who finished with 20 points.

“We’re doing a better job at doing that,” Moss said of the spread-out scoring Saturday night. “With the good ball movement, guys are getting shots where they want them, so we’re able to spread out the scoring.”

Michael Obilpey led the Warhawks with 28 points while Bryant Osei had 17 points and 13 boards. Also for Washington, Dominic Phillips had 24 points, Jacoby Wells 17 points and Marshall Webb 11 points.

Chautauqua will be back in action on Thursday at the Cattaraugus Community Center where it will take on Rochester at 7 p.m.

“We had a real nice crowd,” Moss said. “And the sponsors, I’d like to thank them, too.”

Moss added that anyone wishing to sponsor the Hurricane can contact him at 680-2361 for more information.
