Blue Devils fall to Mt. Union, 9-7

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Fredonia took an early lead yet was unable to make it stand Sunday in a 9-7 women’s lacrosse loss to Mount Union.

Up 3-1 and later 4-3, the Blue Devils lost their lead and were unable to recover from a 5-0 run by the Purple Raiders.

Samantha Spiess, Katie Miller and Audrey Yokopovich had two goals each while Jen Kershner scored once for the Blue Devils, who fell to 0-2.

Marji McNamara had four goals and three assists for the Purple Raiders, who were playing their season opener.

Madeline Haney led Fredonia with three groundballs. Yokopovich was credited with three draw controls, two groundballs, and two caused turnovers.

Nicole Burrows made 15 saves in the Fredonia net.

The Blue Devils open the home portion of their season Friday when they take on Nazareth on the turf field at University Stadium. Game time is 4 p.m.
