Maple Grove rallies past Dunkirk for 78-72 OT win

BEMUS POINT — Despite having five players score in double digits, the Dunkirk Marauders fell to the Maple Grove Red Dragons in overtime, 78-72, Monday in CCAA West 1 boys high school basketball.

Dunkirk jumped out to a strong start with a 26-13 lead after eight minutes and held a 43-29 halftime lead.

However, the Red Dragons rallied in the second half, thanks to a 25-13 run in the third quarter.

Forcing overtime, Maple Grove went 5 for 8 from the foul line and outscored the visitors, 10-4.

Darnell Butts led Dunkirk with 15 points while Tyreek Buchanan-Ruiz and Shamon Stewart each had 14. Evon Hernandez added 12 and Devaun Farnham had 11 in defeat.

The Red Dragons were led by Michel Padilla’s 21 and Truman Purslow’s 14. Peter Aver and Zach Fischer each scored 11 and Carson Crist had 10 for the winners.
