Panther rally in second half for win over T’wolves

CATTARAUGUS — Despite trailing by seven points at halftime, the Pine Valley Panthers (11-9) managed to get hot when it counted and came away with a 58-46 win over the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Timberwolves Monday in CCAA East II boys high school basketball.

“They came out hot,” Pine Valley coach David Philblad said. “We weren’t ready to play defense and they hit good shots. In the second half, we changed defenses and it sparked us. Collectively, there was a lot of effort out there.”

Trailing 35-26 entering the third, Pine Valley went on to outscore the Timberwolves 32-11 in the second half to pull away and pick up the win.

Dylan Chase scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds to go with four assists for the Panthers. Zach Mansfield added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win while Gilberto Ortiz added 12 points and 11 rebounds.


ELLICOTTVILLE — Elliot Bowen and Griffin Chudy paced the Ellicottville Eagles (16-3, 9-1) to a 64-50 victory over the Forestville Hornets (8-10, 6-4) on Monday in CCAA East 2 boys high school basketball.

Bowen finished with a game-high 23 points, while also having 17 rebounds, nine blocks and four steals. Chudy, meanwhile, had 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Eagles had a big first quarter thanks to a 20-7 run. They increased the lead, 36-18 by halftime and never looked back.

Lewis Markham led the Hornets with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals.
