Second half lifts Gowanda to win
GOWANDA — The No. 8 Gowanda Panthers used a strong second half to take down No. 9 JFK, 61-52, Wednesday in the first round of the Section VI Class B-2 boys high school basketball playoffs.
The Panthers held a slim 27-26 lead at halftime, but outscored the visitors, 34-26, in the second half for the victory.
“It was sloppy and physical,” Gowanda coach Andy Bobseine said. “They slowed the pace down and we didn’t play our game. It was not until the second half that we got our mojo going defensively. We got turnovers and it led to fastbreak points which was the key in the second half. We anticipated their passes.”
Nate Brawdy led the way for Gowanda with 22 points while Jarmani Benton finished with 18 for the winners.
Gowanda now travels to No. 1 Medina on Friday.
