SHENANDOAH, Texas — The end of Fredonia’s winter sports season turned out to be a successful one.

Blue Devil senior diver Arron Carlson finished third in men’s 3-meter springboard diving Saturday night at the NCAA Division III. The top-eight finish resulted in Carlson’s second All-America certificate at the 2017 national meet and his fifth over the past three seasons.

In addition, women’s springboard diver Meghan Bartlett — third in the 3-meter and fourth in the 1-meter at this meet — earned the fifth and sixth All-America awards during her similarly illustrious Blue Devil career.

Carlson, fourth Thursday in the men’s 1-meter event, entered finals Saturday as the No. 3 seed after afternoon preliminaries. His five-dive voluntary score of 189.70 points during carried over to finals and left him 28.75 points out of first to start the night session.

He scored 357.65 points on six optional dives at night for an 11-dive total of 547.35 points. He trailed run-away national champ Max Levy of Denison by 40.85 points and national runner-up Connor Brisson of New York University by 30.25 points. Levy also won the 1-meter title on Thursday.

A four-year student-athlete with the Blue Devils, Carlson will graduate as the school record-holder on both boards and in both 6-dive and 11-dive scores.
